Do you have a script sitting around the house perfect for the likes of director John Carpenter? If so, do I ever have a contest for you. The creators of Creative Screenwriting magazine and their online news source, CS Daily, are joining forces with Carpenter himself in order to make the next great suspense film. And it's free. Head over to CreativeScreenWriting.com and sign up for CS Daily (also free) and you get the chance to enter your script for a chance of a lifetime. Remember though, this is John "friggin" Carpenter, don't submit the next gross-out comedy or animated kid's movie. Advice from the site: This free contest is looking for the "next, great John Carpenter film." That means it is only open to suspense scripts – great stories that build slowly to a shattering conclusion. Think Halloween, think Escape From New York, think John Carpenter's The Thing. If this doesn't describe your script, please don't submit it. Save a tree, your postage, and our time. Inappropriate screenplays submitted to this contest will receive quick triage (meaning, they will be immediately thrown into the trash).
Pretty harsh eh? That's cause JC doesn't f*ck around. The winner will receive a $500 option on their screenplay against a six-figure purchase price with production bonuses, and the winning script will be read by writer/director John Carpenter. The deadline is June 1st, 2004, so head over and enter now at the link above and maybe one day your name will be on a poster included in this group.
